Samus Paint Process by southpawper Samus Paint Process by southpawper
Here are the different stages of my recent Samus Aran image, mostly using Sam Nielson's painting process.

Link to his detailed walkthrough: theartcenter.blogspot.com/2010…
Link to high-resolution, finished Samus image: southpawper.deviantart.com/art…

It really helped to break away from my current way of doing things. I learned a bunch of cool tricks, on top of spending more time on details than I usually do.

Her proportions and attitude were also inspired by Gashi Gashi's work. I wanted to take his style/proportions and give them slightly more realism, while adding my own twist.

Edit: Everything was done in Photoshop CS4.

I never thought about using an ambient occlusion or light source before in my art like the way you have done. I'll try that next time.

I will thanks. This technique will be much easier than my multilayer shading and highlighting technique lol.

You're welcome :) Oh cool!! I have CS5. I would LOVE to learn the way you color, seems like it can save some time in shading and such. And it looks really interesting :D Lol all good man, just making sure I didn't miss it. Some artists can get kinda pissy when the description isn't read. I know you're not like that, but just wanted to make sure I didn't miss it :)
